Paul Waiganjo, the runner-up in the recent DCP Ol Kalou Constituency primaries, has joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing unfair practices in the nomination process.
During a meeting in Nakuru with Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano and Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira on May 28, 2026, Waiganjo expressed his belief that the DCP nominations were rigged. He alleged that voters from nearby constituencies were brought in to support the party’s chosen candidate.
He criticized party leader Rigathi Gachagua for failing to ensure fair nominations, claiming that security personnel were sent out before the elections to influence local voters in favor of Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who won.
“There was no fair election; people came from Nakuru and Kipipiri to vote for a candidate chosen by the party. Some were security agents urging Ol Kalou residents to support a specific candidate,” he stated.
“Once the election ended, I decided to guide my supporters elsewhere. I am no longer with DCP. I wish the best for those still in the race.”
In response, Rebecca Miano, campaigning for UDA’s candidate Samuel Muchina, warmly welcomed Waiganjo to the party.
“A winning team thrives on shared beliefs and a commitment to progress. We’re excited to have Paul Waiganjo join us as we work towards a brighter future for Ol Kalou,” she said.
“Leadership has its moments for competition and unity for the greater good. By joining forces, we’re committed to ensuring meaningful development and strong representation for Ol Kalou. Waiganjo’s grassroots energy and community ties will greatly enhance our mission in Nyandarua County.”
This development follows the competitive DCP nominations where Samuel Kamau Ngotho secured the party ticket with 12,957 votes, while Waiganjo received 4,978. The fourth-place candidate has already endorsed Kamau Ngotho.
On the other hand, UDA’s nominations held a day earlier also saw Samuel Muchina clinching the party ticket.
