Siaya Governor James Orengo revealed a troubling plot against him during his political tour in Homa Bay County, which was marred by violence and road blockades.
In a statement shared on X on May 29, 2026, Orengo accused unnamed state operatives and political rivals of inciting violence to disrupt his rallies in Mbita, Rusinga Island, and Sindo.
Orengo reported that his convoy faced multiple attacks upon arriving in Homa Bay, starting at Mbita, where organized groups vandalized his vehicle and damaged others in his entourage.
Despite the chaos, his supporters rallied to protect him, ensuring that the rallies in Mbita Town and Rusinga Island went on successfully.
“Even with a well-planned campaign of terror, my Homa Bay tour was a remarkable success. The forces of darkness tried to halt us, but the power of the people prevailed, showing that our journey for liberation cannot be stopped,” Orengo stated.
The attacks escalated as his convoy headed toward Sindo, where road blockades were set up with burning tires, and stones were thrown at his team. One of his associates, Cvilizer Aran, suffered serious injuries during these confrontations.
Orengo also reported a violent ambush at Kodoyo Junction while returning to Kisumu, where attackers blocked the road and targeted his convoy with stones. Two of his team members were hospitalized with severe injuries.
“As we moved to Sindo, our detractors became increasingly desperate. Roadblocks were set, and our dedicated team member Cvilizer Aran was brutally attacked. Ordinary citizens stood strong and helped us achieve a peaceful rally,” he noted.
“After four more successful stops back to Kisumu, we faced cowardice at Kodoyo Junction. The road was blocked with a concrete pole and boulders, and hired militia assaulted our convoy, injuring two members who are now recovering at Tranquil Hospital. We pray for their swift recovery and demand justice.”
Orengo directly accused political forces opposed to him, particularly Governor Gladys Wanga, of hypocrisy and criticized police inaction during the attacks.
“It’s shameful for Gladys Wanga to claim to be a leader while facilitating violence for political gain,” he said.
He also highlighted the recent withdrawal of his security detail, suggesting it was a deliberate move to put him in danger.
Orengo escalated the rhetoric with a warning to President William Ruto, alleging attempts to intimidate or eliminate him politically.
“To William Ruto, let me be clear: do not attempt to take my life,” he asserted.
He condemned the government’s shift toward a police state, citing suspicious deaths of Luo leaders and citizens in recent years.
“I have dedicated my life to fighting for democracy in this nation, and Kenya deserves better than a regression into a police state,” he stated.
Despite the violence, Orengo celebrated his Homa Bay tour as a “historic success,” refusing to be intimidated by political violence. He thanked the residents for their support, emphasizing that these incidents only strengthened his determination. Orengo remains committed to his role as a key opposition figure, asserting that the withdrawal of his security will not silence his criticism of the government.
