Kenya Power Foundation Commits Sh20M to Wezesha Jamii Community Projects

The Kenya Power Foundation has pledged Sh20 million to support community projects nationwide through its Wezesha Jamii programme, focusing on schools, health facilities, and vulnerable groups in over 20 locations.

This month-long initiative aims to enhance projects in education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and social welfare, showcasing a growing trend among corporations to invest in community development beyond their primary business activities.

During the launch of the Foundation’s Luku Safi event in Nairobi, patron and chairperson Logan Hambrick emphasized that the programme aims to elevate living standards through tangible community actions.

“Wezesha Jamii focuses on empowering our communities to achieve more and improve their circumstances. By investing in schools, health initiatives, and critical environmental projects, we promote dignity and foster empowered societies. This commitment lies at the core of our Foundation’s mission to transform lives and create meaningful impact,” stated Hambrick.

The projects will encompass renovating classrooms, constructing sanitation facilities, upgrading dormitories, and establishing ICT laboratories in schools across various counties.

Additionally, the Foundation plans to fund medical camps, refurbish health facilities, and supply assistive and therapy equipment for children with disabilities.

Beneficiaries include institutions such as Kakamega High School, Mabanga RC Primary School, Muguna Comprehensive School, Wikoteng Primary School, Nyamuga Comprehensive School, Chief Mbogori Girls’ High School, Lamu Girls Secondary School, Rabai Secondary School, and Kabarnet High School.

In West Pokot, the Foundation will support vulnerable children at the Perur Rays of Hope Rescue Centre, while in Korogocho, it will assist in acquiring therapy and assistive equipment for Light and Hope for Disabled Children.

The programme will culminate in Nyamira County with activities at Danes Eronge Secondary School.

“Wezesha Jamii will encompass over 20 projects. Our initiatives include classroom renovations, sanitation facility constructions, ICT laboratory developments, dormitory upgrades, medical camp organization, health facility renovations, and the provision of assistive equipment for children with disabilities,” she added.

The Kenya Power Foundation operates through focused programmes in energy and environment, education and skills development, and community wellness.

This latest investment reflects a growing trend among companies to increase their spending on social impact projects, addressing the rising demand for support in education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
