Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has praised Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, suggesting that if destiny has positioned Sifuna as a potential hero and future president, then it should be embraced.
In an interview with a local TV station on April 30, 2026, Amisi emphasized the need for a political “hero” to challenge President William Ruto, whom they aim to see serve only one term. “If destiny has made Sifuna a hero destined for the presidency, then let it be. A hero must emerge to ensure William Ruto returns home,” Amisi stated.
These comments come amid Sifuna’s rising political profile, particularly following his ousting as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Since then, he has attracted large crowds during his ‘Linda Mwananchi’ rallies nationwide, emerging as a prominent voice for the Gen Z demographic, which has long felt unrepresented.
Despite this momentum, Sifuna recently clarified that he does not currently aspire to the presidency. He stated that his priority lies in creating a strong, issue-based political movement before considering any presidential ambitions.
Regarding Sifuna’s removal, Suba South MP Millie Odhiambo, one of the few party members who opposed the decision during a Kilifi meeting, argued that the treatment of Sifuna has ultimately enhanced his political stature, dubbing him a ‘hero.’
Political analyst Herman Manyora also commented, asserting that Sifuna has outgrown the position of ODM Secretary General, a role he held for nine years. Manyora advised Sifuna to seize the moment and contemplate a presidential run, noting that such opportunities in politics are rare.
Conversely, Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula dismissed Sifuna’s rising popularity, likening it to a “bushfire” that may burn brightly but will eventually extinguish. He urged Sifuna to learn from Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, who initially captivated the public but ultimately lost traction.
