Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen recently confirmed that Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the government’s most wanted fugitive, has remained elusive nearly two years after his dramatic escape from police custody.
In a televised interview on June 22, 2026, Murkomen indicated that Jumaisi, the prime suspect in the Kware killings, may have received assistance from accomplices during his escape. However, he firmly rejected any claims that state agencies aided Jumaisi, emphasizing that the government has no interest in supporting someone accused of heinous crimes.
“Collins Jumaisi is still at large, and there’s no reason for the government to help someone who has committed such atrocious acts,” Murkomen stated. “He likely received help from his criminal associates, and the police are actively pursuing him; this investigation will not close.”
Murkomen’s remarks have reignited public interest in a case that horrified the nation in 2024, following the discovery of mutilated bodies at a dumpsite in Kware, Nairobi.
Jumaisi, a 33-year-old Nairobi resident, was arrested in July 2024 after being linked to bodies found in an abandoned quarry. Detectives labeled him the prime suspect in a series of murders targeting women, with allegations of him confessing to the murders of 42 women, including his wife, before disposing of their remains.
The shocking discovery of dismembered bodies ignited outrage among residents and human rights activists. Investigators uncovered items at Jumaisi’s home, including mobile phones and identity cards, believed to be crucial to the case.
However, controversy arose when Jumaisi’s legal team claimed his confession was coerced through torture—an allegation prosecutors denied.
Just weeks after his arrest, Jumaisi’s case took a dramatic turn when he escaped from Gigiri Police Station on August 20, 2024, alongside 12 Eritrean detainees. Reports indicated that the escapees cut through a wire mesh before scaling a perimeter wall, prompting a nationwide manhunt and serious concerns about police security.
Senior police officials hinted at possible insider assistance, leading to the arrest and investigation of several officers at the station. The escape sparked public outrage, with many questioning how a suspect with such serious allegations could flee from a secure facility.
Murkomen’s recent statements seem designed to dispel ongoing speculation about powerful figures aiding Jumaisi’s disappearance. He reiterated the government’s commitment to capturing the fugitive and hinted that the investigation remains open to the involvement of others in the Kware killings.
Despite the time that has passed, Murkomen assured the public that the search for Jumaisi continues. His ongoing absence remains one of the most troubling aspects of the unresolved Kware killings case, leaving many questions about the full circumstances, victim identities, and how he managed to evade capture.
