Obinna, Mosiria Clash Over ‘Fixed’ Mbavu vs Majembe Fight

A public exchange has arisen between media personality Oga Obinna and Geoffrey Mosiria, Nairobi County’s Head of Customer Care Services, regarding allegations that the much-anticipated boxing match between Mbavu Destroyer and Majembe was predetermined.

The match, which garnered considerable online attention and drew fans through ticket sales and betting, concluded with Majembe as the victor. However, Mosiria contended that the outcome was arranged in advance, igniting a heated exchange between the two.

In a widely shared video, Mosiria argued that the event’s structure indicated foreknowledge of the winner, citing remarks made by Obinna prior to the match. “Obinna did a great job, and I appreciate his efforts, but it’s clear he knew the winner before the match began,” Mosiria stated.

He pointed to a portion of Obinna’s speech where he called for financial rewards for participants, including a Sh1 million allocation for both the winner and Mbavu. “In his speech, he revealed his script… offering one million to the winner and one million to Mbavu suggests prior arrangements,” Mosiria claimed.

Mosiria further alleged that the event was orchestrated to generate revenue through a series of staged matches, including a rematch and a final bout, aimed at sustaining ticket sales and betting interest. “The plan involved staging a rematch where Mbavu would win, followed by a final match, all while fans continued to invest in tickets and bets,” he explained.

He expressed concern that this strategy could mislead fans and bettors, many of whom made financial decisions based on the belief in a fair competition. “We must be honest and genuine with society if we truly want to improve it,” Mosiria emphasized.

In response, Obinna rejected the accusations, suggesting that Mosiria was seeking publicity and misinterpreting his comments. “Before speaking, take a moment to reflect. It’s not illegal to think,” Obinna remarked.

He defended the event as a positive initiative aimed at supporting youth and promoting local talent, encouraging critics to recognize its benefits. “When someone contributes positively to society and to young people, they deserve recognition,” he asserted.

Obinna also pointed out that Mosiria was not directly involved in the event, criticizing him for commenting from afar. “You watched online like many others who couldn’t attend. Stop being a hater,” he added.

The controversy largely originates from Obinna’s pre-match appeal for increased financial support for fighters and officials, including requests for larger payouts and future sponsorship. While Mosiria interprets these remarks as evidence of a predetermined outcome, no independent verification has confirmed that the match was scripted.

This clash underscores the increasing scrutiny surrounding influencer-driven sporting events, particularly those attracting public investment and betting, raising important questions about transparency and regulation.
