Kimani Confident as Harambee Stars Prepare to Face Senegal

Coach Anthony “Modo” Kimani is relishing the chance to test Kenya’s Harambee Stars against African heavyweights Senegal, viewing it as a positive opportunity for both the players and the coaching staff.

This Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Kenya will take on the West African powerhouses days after their 1-0 defeat to Equatorial Guinea in Antalya, Turkey.

There is much to be learned from the game, with both the technical staff and players able to gain valuable insights. This is an opportunity to compete against the top players in Africa. He described this period as offering numerous learning opportunities.

The tactician insisted that the team is keen to demonstrate their abilities going into the match against the highly talented team.

The team in camp is waiting for their major opportunity, and demonstrate to the world what they are capable of,” he added.

Before the match, Kimani stated that a significant portion of their training had focused on addressing the team’s wastefulness in front of goal, a issue that ultimately had a major impact in their loss to Equatorial Guinea.

For a couple of days, we’ve been figuring out how to get the ball into the net at the back. He has made it clear to them that they need to remain composed in front of the goal, and hopefully they will do better if they face Senegal.

Construct towards AFCON 2027.

The test matches are a part of the overall preparations for the 2027 AFCON, which Kenya will host after co-hosting the CHAN 2024 tournament.

Benni McCarthy’s recent selection of players was mainly made up of young players, and Kimani thinks the reason for these call-ups is vital to their long-term objectives.

“The coach is eager to include and assimilate players who have demonstrated their ability to contribute positively to the team.” he added.
