Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma asserted that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua will not appear on the ballot. In a response shared on social media on March 13, 2026, Kaluma addressed Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s comments regarding potential support for Gachagua, should he receive legal clearance to run for president.
“Gachagua will never be on the ballot,” Kaluma stated firmly.
Natembeya explained his stance, emphasizing that the Mt Kenya community has already produced three presidents, and it is time for other regions, particularly Western Kenya, which has yet to see a leader from their ranks, to have their turn.
“The presidency should rotate,” Natembeya argued. “The Mt Kenya community has held power for nearly 43 years. Communities like mine have not, yet our lives are strikingly similar.”
He also critiqued prominent figures in the United Opposition, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Natembeya expressed his willingness to support Kalonzo if he becomes the opposition’s presidential candidate, praising him as a capable diplomat. He extended similar support to Democratic Action Party of Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
Kaluma, a vocal critic of Gachagua, pointed out that Gachagua’s impeachment disqualifies him from holding public office for ten years, as stipulated by law.
