Detectives in Kakamega are probing a suspected murder-suicide involving two university students found dead in a Maraba residence. The victims, students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), were discovered in the same house, shocking the local community.
Initial investigations suggest one student may have fatally stabbed the other before taking their own life, though the motive remains unclear.
Family members of 21-year-old Dariel Jedidah Luvunga last spoke to him on March 8, 2026. Their concern escalated when they couldn’t reach him the following day. On March 10, relatives visited his home, finding the door locked from the inside.
Peering through a small opening, they saw someone motionless on the floor and alerted authorities. Officers forced entry, discovering two bodies: one man with multiple stab wounds and Dariel hanging in the bathroom.
Police recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife believed to be the murder weapon, but no suicide note was found. Both bodies were transported to Kakamega General Hospital for postmortem examinations as investigations continue.
The incident attracted a crowd of residents as police removed the bodies. Authorities urged vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities while detectives work to uncover the circumstances of this tragedy.
In a separate Vihiga County incident, police seek a 43-year-old woman accused of fatally stabbing her 79-year-old father, Mundanya Hezron Madaga, in Chamasilihi village.
