Four Brothers Drown in Abandoned Quarry in Kisumu

On Sunday evening, a tragic incident unfolded in Kisumu as four siblings drowned while swimming in an open quarry. The brothers, aged 15, 13, 10, and 8, lost their lives in a water-filled quarry adjacent to Kudho Primary School in the Kanyakwar area of Kisumu Central sub-county.

This abandoned quarry features deep sections that pose significant dangers to unsuspecting swimmers. Kondele Location Chief Maurice Ajwang confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating that all four bodies were recovered from the quarry.

Initial reports suggest that the eldest brother ventured into the deeper part of the water and began to struggle. In a desperate attempt to save him, his three younger brothers jumped in but tragically succumbed to the overwhelming depth of the water.

Local residents, witnessing the incident, raised the alarm, which initiated immediate rescue efforts that ultimately led to the recovery of the bodies. The deceased brothers were subsequently transported to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue, while police have commenced investigations into this devastating incident.
