Wajackoyah Pledges Loyalty to Atwoli Ahead of 2027 Elections

Roots Party leader and 2022 presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has publicly pledged his political allegiance to Francis Atwoli, the Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU).

On February 8, 2026, Atwoli shared on his official X account that Wajackoyah reaffirmed his loyalty to the Luhya nation during a courtesy visit to Atwoli’s home in Ildamat, Kajiado County. “Today, George Wajackoyah visited me at my Ildamat home to affirm his loyalty in my capacity as a Luhya elder,” Atwoli stated.

As a gesture of respect, Wajackoyah presented Atwoli with a sheep, a traditional symbol of allegiance within Luhya culture. Atwoli emphasized that Wajackoyah had committed to seeking his guidance on political issues that impact the Luhya community.

According to Atwoli, Wajackoyah, a seasoned lawyer and political figure, has pledged to adhere to any political direction he provides for the Luhya nation in the lead-up to the 2027 General Elections. “He has given me strong assurance that he will follow any political direction I shall provide for the Luhya nation. He brought with him a traditionally accepted symbol—a sheep,” Atwoli wrote on X.

Wajackoyah, who is eyeing the presidency in 2027, recently unveiled plans to make voter registration mandatory, linking it to the issuance of government identification and driving licenses, should he succeed President William Ruto.

In an interview with K24 Television on January 13, 2026, Wajackoyah articulated how swiftly he would act upon taking office. “In my first year as president, I will make voter registration compulsory,” he stated. He clarified that the legislation he aims to introduce would connect voter registration directly to receiving IDs and driving licenses.

“I will ensure that legislation passes stating that upon reaching maturity, individuals must apply for voter registration before obtaining their ID or driving license. If they receive their ID or driving license, it will not be functional unless they are registered as voters,” Wajackoyah explained.
