Man United’s Ruben Amorim Calls Out Entitled Players

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has criticised the sense of entitlement at the club and suggested players should utilise criticism and tough times as motivation to prove him wrong.

Amorim was confronted this week with a ‘Free Kobbie Mainoo’ T-shirt being worn by the midfielder’s half-brother, in reaction to the repeated absences of the England star from the starting line-up.

Youthful athletes Harry Amass and Chido Obi posted – then promptly removed – photos on social media showcasing their accomplishments after Amorim had raised concerns last week about their performance.

Former Manchester United stars Rio Ferdinand, Nicky Butt, and Paul Scholes believe Mainoo would benefit from leaving the club.

Amorim believes this approach is misguided. His views align more closely with those of former captain Roy Keane, who believes Mainoo must push himself into Amorim’s team plans.

He mentioned that a sense of entitlement exists within our club in a news conference held on Friday, December 19, 2025.

Challenging experiences can actually be beneficial for children. One doesn’t require praise for every achievement. Our assistance is not being provided.

Protesters speaking out against the club stem from a sense of entitlement among its members. Legends of the club allegedly state that ‘if you don’t play, then leave’, with the reasoning that everyone is mistaken.

No, let’s remain here. Let’s engage in a struggle. Let’s prevail. The door to my office is currently open. Solving issues in that manner is the way forward, but unfortunately, no one is willing to discuss this with me.

Amorim pointed out that the players often seem to forget the significance of representing Manchester United.

“The 40-year-old admitted they are doing poorly within the football club, but asserted they are not underperforming outside of it.”

“The environment of the players is what I comprehend, it’s the kids who feel free to respond to the manager with an image.”

Amorim has not spoken to Mainoo about his half-brother’s actions at Old Trafford during the 4-4 draw with Bournemouth on Monday.

He insists that the 20-year-old’s opportunity for a first Premier League start of the season will not be impacted by it.

United are currently without midfielder Casemiro, suspended, and defenders Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, injured, as well as Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui, who are on Africa Cup of Nations duty.

Amorim stated that it was not Kobbie who wore the T-shirt. He won’t begin because of the T-shirt or be benched because of it.

He will participate in the game if he is the suitable player to take part.
