Sifuna Skips ODM PG Meeting Amid UDA Alliance Rift

Edwin Sifuna, Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Nairobi Senator, notably missed the party’s Parliamentary Group meeting in Nairobi on March 2, 2026. Meanwhile, Caleb Amisi, the Saboti Constituency MP and ousted Deputy Organising Secretary, attended the session.

Convened by ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, the meeting gathered MPs and senators to discuss critical legislative issues and the party’s political trajectory amid rising internal divisions.

Sifuna’s absence raised eyebrows, especially as the party faces contrasting opinions on national matters and potential alliances with rival factions.

A rift has emerged within ODM, with Sifuna leading a faction opposing the party’s collaboration with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA). In contrast, Odinga advocates for negotiations with UDA, reflecting the party’s divergent strategies.

Despite previous tensions, a vocal critic aligned with Sifuna, who has been seen as a rebel, attended the meeting, highlighting the complexities within party dynamics.

The ODM Parliamentary Group gathered today to assess recent achievements and current political positions. Junet Mohamed, the National Assembly’s minority leader, confirmed the meeting’s focus on the party’s activities over the past two months and its stance on vital national issues.

“This meeting will clarify our position and accomplishments, allowing us to communicate effectively with the public afterward,” Junet stated.

Today’s gathering is pivotal for the party to review its performance, particularly in light of the upcoming discussion on the implementation report of the 10-point agenda, set to be presented on March 7, 2026.
