The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced with sorrow the death of Georgina Margaret Oketch.
In a statement released on Saturday, December 6, 2025, ODM confirmed Ms. Oketch’s passing, noting that it followed a brief illness.
The late Margaret Oketch was a member of the ODM Disability League, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities to enhance their independence through personal choice and full participation in Kenya’s governance structures. She also previously served as a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Siaya.
ODM’s statement acknowledged her as “a dedicated member of the party whose immense contribution will be missed,” expressing profound loss.
The party did not immediately release details regarding funeral arrangements for Ms. Oketch, nor did it specify the nature of the illness that led to her death.
This news followed an earlier announcement from the National Assembly confirming the death of nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who passed away on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 am.
In an official address to the House on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula characterized the MP’s demise as a profound loss for both Parliament and the nation. He commended Mr. Hamisi’s diligent service, humble demeanor, and steadfast commitment to public duty.
Mr. Hamisi had been a nominated member of the National Assembly since the 2022 General Election, representing the Amani National Congress (ANC) Party.
