
Moses Omondi, the ODM candidate, secured a commanding lead in the Ugunja Constituency by-election, garnering 9,227 votes in a closely watched contest across Siaya County.
Orodi Odhiambo, the Wiper Party’s closest challenger, received 1,819 votes, and Fredrick Ochiel of UDM secured third place with 1,200 votes.
Other candidates consisted of Benson Obol Otieno from the United Green Movement with 1,171 votes, Maurice Okumu of the Liberal Party Movement with 381 votes, Vincent Olengo of Kenya Moja with 333 votes, Chris Budo of KANU with 188 votes, Lilian Akinyi of the National Alliance Party with 182 votes, Erick Ofiro of the Jubilee Party with 91 votes, and Oliver Ochieng of the National Liberal Party with 56 votes.
After his victory, Moses Omondi expressed gratitude to voters for their strong backing and pledged to focus on development across the constituency.
The Ugunja by-election was part of several polls held nationwide, serving as a significant test for political parties as they prepare for the 2027 General Election.
ODM’s decisive victory is forecast to boost the party’s grassroots movement in Siaya and beyond.
