Prominent Journalist Ken Mijungu leaves KTN after four years

Veteran journalist Ken Mijungu has announced his departure from KTN News, a division of Standard Group PLC, after a dynamic four-year tenure.

In a heartfelt statement shared online, Mijungu expressed gratitude for his time at the station, stating, “A good dancer knows when to exit the stage! Four years of absolute adrenaline and nothing but the best; as unpredictable as it was, it is time to find something else to do when I still can.”

He continued, “Forever grateful to God, my colleagues at Standard Group PLC and KTN News. Adios!”

Mijungu, who has nearly two decades of experience in journalism, refrained from sharing details about his future plans in the media industry, mentioning, “I did not renew my contract.” Sources indicate that Mijungu may be joining Cape Media, the parent company of TV47 and Radio 47, founded by the billionaire and Mount Kenya University founder, Prof. Simon Gicharu.

Mijungu’s journey into journalism began during the tumultuous 2007/2008 post-election violence in Kenya. He borrowed a camera from his brother to document the events unfolding in Kibera, which led to his recruitment by K24 after the station lost footage amid the chaos.

He spent nearly four years at K24, taking on various roles, including news desk reporter and business talk anchor. In December 2012, he transitioned to CCTV Africa (now CGTN Africa), covering major stories like the Mpila military base explosion in Congo Brazzaville.

In February 2013, Mijungu joined Nation Media Group’s NTV, where he served as a senior reporter and hosted the current affairs show “Sidebar” for seven years before moving to KTN News in December 2020. As he embarks on a new chapter, Mijungu leaves behind a legacy of impactful journalism and a commitment to storytelling.
