Rarieda Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing 6-Year-Old Nephew

Residents of Ojelo village in Rarieda, Siaya county, have been left shaken after a six-year-old boy was brutally killed in what began as an ordinary afternoon of children’s play. The tragic incident has stirred grief and disbelief across the community as locals struggle to comprehend how a minor noise disagreement escalated into fatal violence.

According to local authorities, the victim, identified as Tyron Onyango, had been spending his holiday at his grandmother’s home when the incident unfolded. Tyron and other children were playing outside when his uncle, 31-year-old Denis Ouma Nyahinda, reportedly confronted them over what he considered excessive noise.

West Asembo location chief Wycliffe Odiango confirmed that Nyahinda had earlier warned the children to keep quiet. When the minors continued playing, witnesses say the situation quickly intensified. Nyahinda is alleged to have stepped out of his house armed with a panga and began chasing the frightened children.

Tyron attempted to run toward his grandmother’s compound for safety, but Nyahinda allegedly caught up with him and attacked him. The young boy sustained deep wounds to the head and neck, and he died immediately at the scene. The chief said he received a distress call from villagers moments after the attack and alerted police.

Security officers arrived promptly, finding Tyron’s body in a pool of blood within the homestead. The remains were transported to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where they await a postmortem examination to establish the full extent of the injuries.

Nyahinda was arrested soon after and taken into custody at Aram Police Station as detectives work to determine the motive behind the shocking attack. Investigators are gathering witness statements and forensic evidence, with plans to forward the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
