Gachagua reveals what will make him drop his 2027 Presidential Ambition

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that he is willing to shelve his presidential ambitions if the system does not favor him for the 2027 elections. Currently in the United States, Gachagua is actively mobilizing support and opening satellite offices for his newly formed party, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

Speaking from abroad, Gachagua expressed his desire to lead the opposition’s bid in 2027, asserting that he believes he has the best chance to become president among all contenders. However, he emphasized his willingness to support whoever the opposition agrees upon as their candidate.

“I am a front runner, and I believe I have the best chances to become President, but I want to assure you that if the system doesn’t favor me to send Ruto home, I will sacrifice my ambition to support whoever the system favors,” Gachagua said.

He noted that the opposition has yet to settle on a flag bearer for 2027, but assured that at the appropriate time, discussions will be held to determine who will represent the coalition.

“We have not yet decided on anyone. The only consensus we have is on one thing — a single term for President Ruto. Who will replace him is still undecided, but Kenyans have made it clear they want him out. When the time comes, we will have that conversation and reveal our candidate,” Gachagua added.

He also highlighted that the government’s size offers room for various leaders to participate, provided there’s a system in place that promotes good governance, fights corruption, and addresses issues like extrajudicial killings and abductions.

“The government is large enough for everyone, and we will agree on who takes what position once we develop a solid formula for good governance and tackling corruption and insecurity,” he said.

Gachagua dismissed recent reports suggesting that the opposition has settled on former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i as their presidential candidate in 2027. He described such claims as the handiwork of security agencies aimed at dividing the opposition.

As the political landscape for 2027 begins to take shape, Gachagua’s stance underscores his readiness to adapt to the evolving dynamics, emphasizing unity and the importance of a fair system.
