Caleb Amisi, the Saboti Member of Parliament and a key member of the Linda Mwananchi team led by Edwin Sifuna, has announced plans to reveal their leadership lineup shortly after the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) forthcoming National Delegates’ Conference (NDC).
In an interview with the Alfa House Podcast, aired on March 13, 2026, Amisi emphasized that the announcement will occur immediately following the NDC, which serves as the party’s highest decision-making body. He explained that this timing is strategic; revealing their plans too early could expose their team leader to potential intimidation and threats from rivals, including arrest or kidnapping.
“It’s prudent to keep our strategy under wraps. Exposing our leader prematurely could lead to dangerous consequences. We will disclose our lineup after Sifuna convenes the NDC,” Amisi stated.
He further affirmed the commitment to an open democratic process, encouraging anyone who aligns with their values to seek leadership roles within the formation and to challenge incumbents who may not fulfill their responsibilities effectively.
Amisi highlighted that for the NDC to be legally convened, it must be called by Edwin Sifuna, the party’s secretary general, who was recently replaced by his deputy, Catherine Omanyo, the Busia Woman Representative.
Moreover, he issued a warning against any attempts to mobilize disruptive elements during the NDC, asserting that such actions would be met with equal resistance.
Proposed Linda Mwananchi Lineup
This announcement follows Amisi’s recent call for Sifuna to reclaim the ODM party from Oburu Odinga. He advocated for the removal of members who, according to him, do not embody the core values of ODM, suggesting their replacement with individuals committed to preserving the party’s essence.
Amisi proposed that if Sifuna successfully takes control of the party from Oburu, he should either assume the role of party leader or endorse Siaya Governor James Orengo for that position, while Sifuna could serve as secretary general. Alternatively, he mentioned the possibility of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who has recently expressed interest in the leadership role, taking the position of party leader, with either Sifuna or Orengo stepping into the deputy or secretary-general roles.
Cracks Within ODM
The rift within ODM has emerged from differing perspectives, with one faction led by Oburu Odinga advocating for the party’s support of President William Ruto’s re-election, while the Sifuna-led faction opposes this stance, insisting on the necessity of fielding their own presidential candidate.
This division has given rise to two competing factions: the Linda Mwananchi faction and the Linda Ground faction, both led by Oburu Odinga, each striving to assert its dominance within the party.
