3 Arrested After Attack on Linda Mwananchi Convoy in Kisii

Three suspects have been apprehended following an attack on a Linda Mwananchi convoy in Keumbu, Kisii County, last Friday.

The National Police Service (NPS) announced on Saturday that they are actively investigating to identify and arrest additional individuals connected to this incident.

Investigations revealed that the attack targeted a political group along the Kisii-Keroka Road on Friday, July 3.

Swift action from officers at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and those from Keumbu Police Station led to the arrest of three suspects, who are now in police custody.

The police are conducting a thorough analysis of videos circulating on mainstream and social media, alongside other investigative measures, to facilitate further arrests.

The NPS stated, “We are performing a detailed video analysis along with broader investigative efforts to ensure we can make additional arrests.”

The service firmly condemned the violence, labeling political intolerance as unacceptable and emphasizing that those responsible will face prosecution through the criminal justice system.

The statement read, “The NPS strongly condemns the events depicted. Political intolerance, in any form, is unacceptable and we will vigorously pursue justice.”

The Inspector General of the National Police Service has instructed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to expedite its assessment of the incident, focusing on identifying any operational gaps that may have contributed to the violence. Officers have already been deployed to the affected area.

The statement noted, “The Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS) has directed the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) to quickly assess all aspects of the violence, pinpoint any operational shortcomings, and take the necessary actions regarding the attack.”

The police also encourage the public to assist with investigations by sharing any relevant information at their nearest police station or through the toll-free emergency numbers 999, 911, 0800 722 203 (FichuaKwaDCI), or via WhatsApp at 0709 570 000.

Reaffirming their commitment to public safety, the NPS stated that they will ensure all responsible parties are held accountable.

“As a Service, we remain dedicated to protecting the public, thoroughly investigating all cases, and ensuring that those who perpetrate violence are brought to justice,” the statement concluded.
