One of the five individuals abducted and released by their captors on January 6th, Bernard Kavuli, has shared a harrowing account of his 15-day ordeal.
Speaking in his hometown of Kalamba Muyo, Mwingi North in Kitui County, Kavuli described the brutal conditions he endured while in captivity, including being held naked, beaten, and denied food.
Upon his return, Kavuli revealed that he lost six kilograms due to the inhumane treatment he faced. He reported that there were other youths also being held captive at the location where he was released. “I was kept in a place where there were approximately 30 others who were also confined,” he stated. He urged Kenyans to continue advocating for the release of other abductees who remain in captivity.
His lawyer, Shadrack Wambui, echoed his sentiments, calling for immediate action: “I ask the President to order the release of others who are still being held against their will.”
Kavuli’s sister, Scholar Mwende, expressed her anguish over the situation, stating, “If someone has committed a crime, appropriate action should be taken, even if it means going to court. Parents suffer immensely not knowing where their child is.”
Kavuli was abducted on December 22, 2024, at a petrol station in Ngong and was released 15 days later in Uasin Gishu County. His story has sparked renewed calls for action against abductions and for the safe return of those still missing.
