Win for Azimio as court declines to stop protests

The High Court today declined to stop the ongoing protests led by the Azimio coalition.

The High Court judge Hedwig Ongundi also declined to order the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to arrest the demonstrators.

The decision was in response to a case filed by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who sought to have the demos declared illegal as a result of the disruption of business in the country.

In the petition filed under a certificate of urgency, Sonko sought the intervention of the courts to stop the Azimio leaders from leading the by-Weekly demonstrations.

The demonstrations have been organized by the Odinga led Azimio La Umoja to pressurize the government to act on the rising cost of living amongst other grievances by the opposition.
