The government has assured Kenyans that the internet will be available throughout the upcoming electioneering period.
Speaking in Naivasha on Wednesday 8th June at the launch of the stakeholders workshop on Kenya’s cyber security strategy 2022-2026, Interior cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said no amount of provocation or insults will necessitate withdrawal of freedom to Kenyans such as the shutting down of internet during elections.
The forum incorporates all of government and private sector players in developing a national cyber strategy. The Minister said protecting the integrity of Kenya’s data systems from hackers and saboteurs requires collaboration across different spectrums, adopting international standards and best practices. “As security sector players, we are alive to menace of cyber bullying, abuse of social media and recognize the timely nature of this policy document in combating these vices.” said Matiangi.
