Mbotela, a beloved figure in Kenyan media, was widely recognized for his influential radio and television program, “Jee Huuu ni Ungwana,” which aired on KBC radio and television. Launched in 1966, the program captivated audiences for over 55 years, making Mbotela a household name.
Born in 1940 in Freetown, Mombasa, to James and Aida Mbotela, he was the eldest of eight siblings. Throughout his illustrious career, Mbotela made significant contributions to journalism and media, becoming a mentor to many young journalists and a prominent voice in the industry.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Mwikali, and their three children: Aida, Jimmy, and George Mbotela. His passing marks a profound loss for the Kenyan media landscape and the numerous lives he touched through his work.
