Ugenya voters protest MP David Ochieng’s move to Kenya Kwanza

Residents of Ugenya constituency in Siaya County have protested their MP David Ochieng’s recent move to join the President Elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance saying they were hoodwinked.

The move follows Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) and it’s leader’s decision to dump the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition for Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Nyanza Daily has learnt that the move by David Ochieng caught most of his supporters by surprise because it effectively shifts Ugenya which is a Raila Odinga stronghold to William Ruto’s camp.

Immediately after the move by David Ochieng, there were demonstrations in various places including Sega Township where residents called for fresh elections.

The residents complain that Ochieng lied to them that he was in Azimio and that his latest move to join Kenya Kwanza was made without consulting them.

Former Ugenya aspirant in the 2019 by-elections Mr. Daniel Juma has said the move was expected and added that Mr. Ochieng has always been an ally of the Deputy President albeit secretly. “There is nothing wrong with taking a political stand. There are several people in Nyanza like Eliud Owalo who openly stood with the Deputy President in Luo Nyanza. However it is the height of political conmanship to use Azimio to be voted to parliament only to reveal your true colours immediately after the elections.” Says Juma who emerged 3rd in the 2019 Ugenya by-elections after David Ochieng and ODM’s Chris Karan.

The video below shows some reactions of David Ochieng’s disappointed supporters in Ugenya who feel cheated by his move.
