The Taliban held their first press conference since taking power by declaring “amnesty” for government officials and vowing to uphold women’s rights under Islamic law.
In a dramatic departure from the past Taliban regime before the U.S.-led invasion in 2001, the Taliban announced that the rights of women and children shall be safeguarded in accordance with the Sharia law.
