Six Iranians Plead Guilty in Ksh.8.2B Drug Trafficking Case

The suspects, identified as Jasem Darzaen Nia, Nadeem Jadgai, Imran Baloch, Hassan Baloch, Rahim Baksh, and Imtiyaz Daryayi, admitted to trafficking 1,036 kilograms of methamphetamine. They were arrested on October 25, 2025, after being intercepted in the Indian Ocean while transporting the drugs.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the six entered guilty pleas before Chief Magistrate Anthony Mwicigi at the Shanzu Law Courts. Prosecutors told the court that the narcotics were hidden aboard a stateless vessel known as Mashaallah, a tactic commonly used by international drug syndicates to avoid detection and complicate jurisdictional claims.

The accused were charged under Section 4(a)(ii) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act of 1994, as amended in 2022. The ODPP noted that the amendments have strengthened Kenya’s ability to deal with large-scale and cross-border drug trafficking operations.

During the proceedings, the prosecution requested a two-week period to compile and present detailed facts of the case. The court was informed that the size of the seized consignment and the location of the vessel require special logistical arrangements. As a result, the hearing has been scheduled for January 30, 2026, and will take place at the Kenya Navy base in Mtongwe, where both the vessel and the drugs are currently being held.

In the meantime, the court ordered that the six accused be remanded at Shimo La Tewa Prison pending the next hearing.
