A skull that is suspected to be of a man who died a year ago was on Wednesday afternoon fished out of Lake Victoria.
The fishermen were on their usual fishing expedition when they discovered something that was so unusual having been caught by their dragnet.
It was at that moment that the suspicious catch attracted the attention of the fishermen.
On their own assessment, the fishermen suspected that the skull could be that of James Nindo Obiero, who was allegedly devoured by a crocodile in March 2023 in Kabuong village.
The fishermen reported the incident to the County police headquarters.
“It was reported by one Magdalene Anyango Nindo that today she received information from fishermen that they had retrieved a skull from Lake Victoria believed to belong to her husband, one James Nindo Obiero,” Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said.
Police officers later rushed to the scene where they found the said skull on the shores of Lake Victoria, where its finders had dropped it, Kimaiyo explained.
The skull was moved to Madiany Sub County Hospital Mortuary pending identification and DNA examination.
Such news are common around Lake Victoria, and around any other water body, where cases of deaths in water are a commonplace.
