Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has responded to the recent TIFA opinion poll that ranks him as the second most favored presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. He emphasizes that these findings illustrate the increasing backing for the Linda Mwananchi movement nationwide.
During an interview with Western media outlets on Friday, July 24, 2026, Sifuna highlighted that the survey indicates President William Ruto’s support falls significantly short of the constitutional threshold needed to secure a presidential victory in the first round. He firmly believes that a united opposition can decisively defeat Ruto in the upcoming election.
“From my observations, the Linda Mwananchi coalition enjoys substantial support across our nation due to the critical issues we champion,” Sifuna asserted.
Sifuna emphasized that Ruto’s support, currently at 24 percent according to the TIFA poll, suggests the president would struggle to secure re-election if the elections were held today.
“This survey reveals that William Ruto commands only 24 percent support. This means that if an election took place today, he would not achieve the necessary majority, as our Constitution mandates a candidate to obtain 50 percent plus one vote. Falling short of this threshold means going home,” he articulated.
Sifuna called for unity among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that consistent opinion polls indicate the opposition could effectively win the presidency if they rally behind a single candidate.
“Based on the ongoing surveys and statistics, it’s evident that if the opposition unites, we can successfully send President William Ruto home,” he declared.
