Osotsi Speaks After Kisumu Attack, Claims Prior Warning and Arrests

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has spoken out for the first time following an attack at a Kisumu hotel that left him injured.

From his hospital bed on April 10, 2026, Osotsi recounted the incident. He had just left a barbershop after a 40-minute visit when he arrived at the hotel.

Shortly after, about 20 youths entered, shouting his name. Initially appearing friendly, they quickly turned aggressive, demanding to know why he wasn’t supporting the president and why he was chanting “Wantam.”

Osotsi described how the group attacked him with kicks and blows, rendering him unable to escape as he attempted to crawl away.

“I saw the group enter the hotel, and they didn’t seem threatening, calling out, ‘Senator, Senator.’ But as they got closer, they greeted me before suddenly starting to hit me,” he explained.

At the time of the attack, his security officer had stepped out to withdraw money, leaving him vulnerable.

Prior Warnings of an Attack

The senator revealed he received a warning a week earlier from a woman he identified as a U.S. intelligence officer, alerting him to plans for an attack. He shared this information with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, noting that even political rivals had issued similar warnings.

The assault occurred on April 8, 2026. CCTV footage captured the attack before he was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu for stabilization and later transferred to Karen Hospital for further care.

Investigations into the Attack

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has arrested three suspects linked to the incident, who remain in custody pending arraignment, with additional arrests anticipated.

Osotsi has suggested that a senior government official may have orchestrated the attack, claiming the assailants acted under his influence.
