Oburu Oginga Signals ODM-UDA Alliance Ahead of 2027

ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga recently articulated a strategic shift in the party’s political approach during a women’s economic empowerment event.

Speaking at a women’s empowerment forum in Homa Bay on Friday, February 27, 2026, Oburu underscored the vital role of women’s empowerment in nation-building, linking it to broader initiatives for inclusive growth. He articulated a clear vision for ODM as it prepares for the 2027 elections.

“We are intentionally transitioning from the friction of political competition to the stability of collaborative governance, aiming to create a prosperous and inclusive nation for all.”

Oburu’s call to “Fortify the Orange House and Build Strategic Alliances” emphasizes the need to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, ensuring ODM retains its status as Kenya’s most organized and resilient political entity. He asserted that by investing in internal renewal, ODM is equipping its members to navigate future political challenges effectively.

The forum, attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and hosted by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, highlighted the critical role women play in national development and the emerging partnership between ODM and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

A pivotal aspect of Oburu’s address was the evolving relationship with UDA, which he described as a cooperation of purpose rooted in a “Kenya First” philosophy.

He emphasized the necessity of prioritizing a 10-point national agenda to achieve meaningful outcomes.

“We are reinforcing our grassroots structures from the ground up to ensure ODM remains Kenya’s most organized, resilient, and ideologically driven party. Our strength lies in our people, and our focus is on internal renewal that prepares us for the challenges ahead.

“Our collaboration with UDA embodies a cooperation of purpose, anchored in a ‘Kenya First’ approach that prioritizes the 10-point national agenda, delivering tangible, life-changing results for every citizen.”

Deputy President Kindiki echoed this sentiment, assuring ODM leaders that the broad-based government creates space for all political entities.

“Rest assured, this broad-based government will accommodate all of us,” he stated, emphasizing the residents’ desire for direct involvement in governance and development, including enhancements in infrastructure, electricity, and essential services.

He clarified that while the government operates within a broad-based framework intended to foster unity and national development, the position of deputy president is not part of any political negotiation.

The Homa Bay event takes place amid ongoing discussions regarding the deputy presidency and positioning for the 2027 elections.
