Engineer Dan Totto, the eldest son of former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, has shared that he was involved in a road accident while driving home from Nairobi.
In a heartfelt statement on social media, Dan Totto reassured everyone that he, along with the two passengers in his vehicle and the driver of the other car, sustained only minor injuries. He expressed his gratitude for the support and prayers from friends and family, emphasizing the importance of their well-wishes during this challenging time.
“Thank you to my friends and family for your kind thoughts and prayers. I was indeed in an accident returning from Nairobi, but I am grateful that all involved, including myself and the other driver, emerged with minor injuries. We truly appreciate the blessings,” he stated.
Initial reports suggested that Dan Totto had suffered serious injuries, but his clarification highlighted that everyone involved escaped with minor injuries.
Messages of support flooded in after Dan Totto’s update. Friends, relatives, and members of the public rallied around him on social media, wishing him a swift recovery and expressing relief that he and the other passengers survived the incident. Several commenters encouraged him and the other occupants to seek medical evaluations as they continue to recover.
“Wishing you and the other passengers a quick recovery. I hope you all get the medical attention you deserve,” commented Geoffrey Odhiambo Ochieng.
The damaged luxury SUV involved in the accident, which suffered significant rear-end damage, has been taken to Sotik Police Station. Although the vehicle is associated with former Governor Okoth Obado, Dan Totto did not address it in his statement.
While the cause of the accident remains under investigation, police are expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Meanwhile, former Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado currently awaits sentencing at Industrial Area Remand Prison in Nairobi after his conviction for the 2018 murder of Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.
On July 23, 2026, the High Court convicted Obado alongside his former personal assistant, Michael Juma Oyamo, and former Migori County clerk, Caspal Ojwang Obiero. The prosecution presented compelling circumstantial evidence, including DNA analysis, communication records, and witness testimonies.
Following the conviction, the court revoked the bond terms for the three men and ordered their remand in custody until sentencing. They were subsequently moved to Industrial Area Remand Prison.
The court has tasked the Probation Department with preparing pre-sentencing reports and victim impact statements ahead of the scheduled sentencing around August 18, 2026. Under Kenyan law, the conviction for murder carries severe penalties, including life imprisonment or the death penalty, depending on the court’s ruling.
