The National Police Service (NPS) has implemented a series of leadership changes, affecting several key officers within its ranks.
Notably, Nairobi’s police commander, Adamson Bungei, has been reassigned to the police headquarters, where he will now serve as the Director of Operations. Taking over Bungei’s former role in Nairobi is Coast Regional Police Commander George Sedah. His predecessor, William Yiampoy, has not been assigned a new role at this time.
The NPS has also introduced Michael Nyaga as its new spokesperson, a position previously held by Resila Onyango. Nyaga comes to this role after serving as the Kiambu Police Commander. Ongayo, who held the spokesperson position since November 2022, will transition to become the Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit.
In further promotions, Kwale Police Commander Ali Nuno has been elevated to the position of Coast Regional Police Commander. This move is part of efforts to tackle the ongoing gang-related issues in Mombasa.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja has characterized these changes as routine, intended to enhance the effectiveness of police operations across the country.
Additionally, Mwangi Wanderi, who was formerly in charge of the National Forensics Laboratory, will now lead the Human Capital division at Vigilance House. Rosemary Kuraru has been appointed to take over the responsibilities at the National Forensics Laboratory.
Other notable changes include Judy Jebet stepping into the leadership of the Community Policing unit, succeeding John Gachomo, and Daniel Korir taking command of the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU). Furthermore, Michael Sang has been appointed as the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in the Eastern Region.
These leadership adjustments reflect the NPS’s commitment to strengthening its operational capabilities and addressing the unique challenges faced in various regions.
