Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to face additional Charges

Milimani Anti -corruption Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti has directed Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to appear in court on Monday next week to answer the new corruption allegations against him after the Director of Public Prosecution amended his charge sheet.

The governor is facing charges of abuse of office where it is alleged that Mike sonko demanded a 10 million bribe between January 10 and January 19th 2019 from Web Tribe Limited via ROG Limited to facilitate payments from the County Government.This comes after earlier charges against him of money laundering, unlawful acquisition of public property, irregular payment charges and other economic crimes.

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji says the Governor is not being offered plea bargains.Mike Sonko is to be charged alongside the Director of ROG Limited Anthony Ombok who is accused of receiving proceeds.

Twenty witnesses are set to testify in the case that is set to run for the next 28 days from Monday next week, each day taking 5 hours of court proceedings without adjournment.
