Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and co-accused aide Otieno Geoffrey were today ordered to remain in Mombasa Port Police Station till Thursday the 22nd of October 2020. The two were charged with murder and assault charges ,on the 14th of October 2020.
Speaking in Mombasa High Court , on Monday the 19th of October 2020, Judge Njoki Mwangi remanded Aisha Jumwa and co-accused citing psychiatric evaluations on the two at the Coast General Hospital, ahead of plea-taking and pre-bail assessment on Thursday in respect to the murder and assault charges.
This comes after Alloys Kemo, the Regional Head of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ,Mombasa, approved murder and assault charges on the two after the prosecution linked them to the 2019 fatal shooting.
Malindi MP Aisha and aide Otieno are alleged to have rocked chaos in Ganda Ward in Kilifi County ,when they stormed a political campaign meeting leading to the fatal shooting of Gumbao Jola ,on the 15th of October 2019. The campaigns were held ahead of upcoming by-elections scheduled on the 17th of October 2019 in her constituency. The meeting was said to have been organised by ODM rival Reuben Katana in his home.
The Coast General Hospital is to ascertain Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa’s mental sustainability to stand trial.
