Machakos Man Electrocuted in Bar Rooftop Entry Attempt

A 25-year-old man tragically lost his life after being electrocuted while allegedly trying to enter a bar through the rooftop in Kathiani Sub-County, Machakos County.

Authorities reported that the incident took place at a bar located in Mukukuni Market within Muonyweni Village. Upon arrival, police discovered the lifeless body of Stephen Ndeto Kyalo on the rooftop of the establishment.

Initial investigations revealed that the bar attendant had closed the venue at approximately 11:20 PM on Friday, leaving only one customer who was finalizing his payment. Shortly thereafter, the attendant and the customer heard alarming noises and screams from the rooftop.

Upon investigation, they found that the deceased had reportedly attempted to enter the bar through the roof after discovering the main entrance locked. In doing so, he came into contact with a live, exposed electric wire, resulting in instant electrocution.

Crime scene investigators documented and processed the area, subsequently transferring the body to Kangundo Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination. Authorities have urged property owners to ensure proper insulation of electrical wiring to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

In a separate incident, a postmortem examination confirmed that a police officer who passed away in Kitengela, Kajiado County, died from electrocution. The autopsy on the late officer, Jackson Mwirigi, was conducted by pathologist Simon Omuok in the presence of family members and investigating officers. The pathologist determined electrocution as the cause of death, and the body has been moved to Meru for preservation as burial arrangements proceed.

Meanwhile, in Kieni East Subcounty, Nyeri County, rescue operations continued on Saturday after a man was suspected of suffocating while digging a borehole in Ngarariga Village. Authorities reported that the incident occurred on Friday, March 20, when two individuals were excavating a borehole approximately 75 feet deep. One of them, identified as Stephen Gitahi, descended into the hole to continue digging while his partner remained above to assist with removing soil.

Suddenly, Gitahi ceased communication while inside the borehole, raising concerns that he may have suffocated due to a lack of oxygen. The Nyeri County rescue team responded, but adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, hindered their efforts and forced them to postpone the operation. Authorities plan to resume the rescue mission once conditions improve, as worries about the victim’s survival persist.

Additionally, police in Mt. Elgon Subcounty, Bungoma County, are investigating a drowning incident after a 38-year-old man’s body was discovered in a water-filled trench in the Kaptama area. Reported on March 21, 2026, police found Paul Kwemoi lying face down in a concrete trench designed to channel rainwater into River Sosio. Preliminary observations indicated no visible physical injuries, suggesting a possible drowning. The body was retrieved following scene management and has since been moved to Kimilili Delight Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination.
