The Linda Mwananchi movement proudly announces its endorsement of Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. This decision aims to put an end to any speculation regarding divisions within our opposition group.
Following a productive leadership retreat on Saturday, the movement’s leaders expressed their commitment to moving forward together, united by a shared purpose: answering the call for improved governance in Kenya.
“We gathered as the leadership of Linda Mwananchi and decided to unite around our common goal of addressing Kenyans’ demands for better governance and rescuing our nation from the shortcomings of the current administration,” the statement highlighted.
The leaders confirmed that Sifuna will take the lead as the presidential candidate, with plans to announce the political party through which he will run in early October.
“In early October, Sifuna will unveil the party he will represent in the presidential race,” the statement added.
Additionally, the movement plans to build a coalition with like-minded political parties that share its commitment to the people of Kenya.
This declaration comes amidst discussions regarding the unity of the movement, especially in light of the political aspirations of some of its members.
Sifuna shared his enthusiasm after the retreat, referring to his colleagues as “great leaders” and expressing optimism for the movement’s future endeavors.
“The Linda Mwananchi retreat concluded late but successfully. It’s always a pleasure to be among such great leaders! We are moving forward positively!” Sifuna expressed.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino echoed the sentiment of unity, emphasizing that the leaders have committed to strengthening their collaboration and consolidating their political foundations.
“We are more united than ever,” Babu affirmed.
He stressed that the meeting focused on solidifying the movement’s bases, enhancing cooperation, and reaffirming the leaders’ dedication to working together.
“We agreed that achieving our shared political objectives requires unity, coordination, and a strong willingness to collaborate,” Babu stated.
This retreat followed Babu’s public reaffirmation of support for Sifuna’s presidential campaign, addressing any concerns about internal differences within Linda Mwananchi.
Sifuna has previously indicated his pursuit of a new political platform to further his 2027 presidential ambitions, especially following his split with the Orange Democratic Movement.
