K’ogalo hit City Stars to become Kenyan Champions

Gor Mahia players celebrating after winning this year’s Kenya Premier League.

Gor Mahia yesterday hit four past City Stars to become this season’s Kenya Premier League Champions is a 5-goal thriller.

K’ogalo started the game on a high octane after the other title contenders, Tusker FC, got an early goal in the very first minute of their game against the already relegated Vihiga Bullets.

It was going to be a long afternoon for Gor after Tusker FC scored another goal in Mumias Complex past Vihiga Bullets to push them to position one – which meant they were the league leaders by then.
To make things worse for K’ogalo at Kasarani stadium, City Stars continue to frustrate Gor Mahia’s multiple onslaughts the entire first half as Tusker were only waiting for the final whistle to be declared this year’s KPL champions.

Things went from bad to worse for Gor in the second half as City Stars got the first goal after a blunder from Gor’s defence. The Kenyan football giants continued with flurry of attacks till their persistence bore fruit when their top scorer, Benson Omalla, nodded home the first goal after a goalkeeping blunder by City Stars’ custodian.

The scoreline at that juncture still meant that Tusker FC were going to be the Champions – since they were now leading with a single point ahead of Gor.

After the sixtieth minute, Kasarani stadium came into raptures when Peter Lwasa curled a left-footer into the net to make it 2-1 in favour of Gor.
Inside the last ten minutes for the game to end, Gor won a free-kick at the edge of the eighteenth yard box, and K’ogalo’s playmaker Austin Odhiambo didn’t disappoint as he buried the goal past a hapless City Stars’goalkeeper Stephen.

At 3-1, and in the dying minutes of second half, Gor were Champions designate – regardless of the outcome of the game between Tusker FC and Vihiga Bullets.
Things were then sealed when Alpha Onyango hit screamer past City Stars’ custodian to put the scoreline at Kasarani stadium at 1-4 in favour of the visitors, Gor Mahia. From Mumias Complex stadium, Tusker FC beat their hosts Vihiga Bullets 4-0 to seal their second place, just one point behind Champions Gor Mahia.
This was the 20th. Premier league trophy win by Gor Mahia.
