
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has announced the passing of its Chairperson, Roseline Odhiambo Odede, following a brief illness.
In a statement released by KNCHR Vice Chairperson Dr. Raymond Nyeris, the commission conveyed its profound sorrow, describing Ms. Odede’s death as a significant loss to both the human rights agency and the nation as a whole.
“It is with shock and deep sadness that I inform you of the demise of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, HSC, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, which occurred yesterday, Friday, January 3, 2025,” the statement read.
The commission offered heartfelt condolences to Ms. Odede’s family and friends, acknowledging the substantial void her passing has created within the organization and the wider community.
“As a Commission, we had the privilege of serving alongside Roseline Odede as she led us with dedication and vision. Her untimely death is a significant blow to the Commission and the nation at large,” Dr. Nyeris added.
During this period of mourning, the commission extended its sympathies to Ms. Odede’s family, friends, and all who knew her. “May the memories of her exceptional service provide comfort and strength in this difficult time,” the statement concluded.
Funeral arrangements for Ms. Odede have yet to be announced.
