Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has openly shared his experiences of persistent harassment, including court appearances, detention, and even threats of violence. He attributes these challenges to his unwavering opposition to the illegal appropriation of public resources and private land.
During a public address in Kiambu County on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while commissioning solar streetlights in Ndumberi Ward, Wamatangi emphasized that his outspoken stance against corruption has made him a target. He highlighted the attempts by powerful individuals to unlawfully seize land from residents and reaffirmed his commitment to defending public interests.
“I often feel like I am being pursued as if I have no support. Sometimes I find myself in court, other times in detention, and even facing gunfire simply for standing up against the theft of public resources. I firmly believe that the land of our people should not be taken by those we have elected. It’s unacceptable for individuals in power to exploit their positions for personal gain,” Kimani stated passionately.
Wamatangi has reiterated that his firm stand against the misuse of public office and the encroachment on residents’ land has made him a target for ongoing scrutiny. He firmly believes that leaders should protect public resources instead of exploiting them, and he is dedicated to ensuring that the interests of Kiambu residents remain safeguarded.
In terms of the political landscape, the governor announced a temporary pause in his political activities to focus on fulfilling his administrative responsibilities. He has urged the residents of Kiambu to grant him this reprieve, stating that completing ongoing development projects is his top priority before re-engaging in politics.
“I have decided to step back from politics for now, Kiambu residents, and I ask for your understanding. My immediate focus is on ensuring that our ongoing projects are completed. I will return to political engagements in December,” he added confidently.
Wamatangi expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made to the people of Kiambu, asserting that politics can wait until vital county programs and projects are successfully completed. He remains dedicated to resuming his political role in December, armed with the assurance that his administration’s work is substantially accomplished.
