Vice Chancellor Professor Wainaina addressed students in tears saying he refused to cede KU land

The state has moved to replace Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Professor Wainaina and the University Council over their refusal to cede unutilized land belonging to the institution for what it calls strategic investment.
However Higher Education Principal Secretary for University Education Mr. Simon Nabukwesi has dismissed the claims saying that public officers act on behalf of the appointing authority but some are given the job but forget and act in defiance.
A new Council headed by former University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor Prof. Crispus Kiamba held its first sitting at the university and resolved to suspend professor Wainaina for 30 days pending investigations for acts o misconduct. The council also appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Prod. Waceke Wanjohi as acting Vice Chancellor.
During the breaking ground for the World Health Organization regional hub President Uhuru Kenyatta accused the Kenyatta University administration of refusing to cede land for the building of the facility which would be of great benefit to the country and the region.
