Uhuru criticizes DCI boss for reopening of PEV cases

President Uhuru Kenyatta has censured the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti over his decision to reopen criminal cases linked to the 2007/08 post-election violence.

Speaking at the KICC on 25th November 2020, at the Building Bridges Initiative signature collection launch, President Kenyatta cautioned the move saying it was a recipe for ethic conflicts.

This comes after the DCI boss on Monday the 23rd of November ,announced that his office had reopened investigations into the country’s 2007-08 (PEV) post-election violence .

Mr. Kinoti further explained that this was arrived at following complaints raised to his office by communities claiming to be facing fresh intimidations.

President Kenyatta presented an argument that Mr. Kinoti’s decision to reopen the cases was taken with no proper thoughts of the reality and declared no support for such efforts.

Inline with the BBI , President Kenyatta said that the constitutional amendment process being undertaken through the BBI process will help fix some of the country’s deep rooted challenges such as the cyclic post-election violence.
