Kenya to Host World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026

Kenya has successfully secured the hosting rights for the prestigious World Health Summit Regional Meeting (WHSRM) 2026, which will take place in Nairobi. This significant event is scheduled for April 27 to April 29, 2026, at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, and will convene health leaders, policymakers, researchers, and partners from around the globe.

In a statement released on X on January 22, 2026, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed this exciting development, noting that preparations are already in full swing. He emphasized that preliminary consultations have commenced to ensure Kenya is fully prepared to host this high-level forum. Duale outlined that this meeting is part of a comprehensive planning strategy aimed at positioning the country favorably in advance of the summit.

“In preparation for the World Health Summit Regional Meeting (WHSRM) 2026, I conducted a consultative meeting with Prof. Lukoye Atwoli, Dean and International President of WHSRM 2026. This meeting is a vital step in the ongoing planning for the summit, which will take place at the United Nations Office in Nairobi from April 27 to 29, 2026,” he stated.

The Health Cabinet Secretary highlighted that the summit will revolve around a theme that mirrors the current and future trajectories of health systems across the continent. He noted that this theme directly addresses Africa’s health priorities and underscores the necessity for collaboration across nations and sectors.

“Under the theme, ‘Reimagining African Health Systems: Innovation, Integration, and Interdependence,’ the summit is poised to attract over 2,000 delegates from more than 50 countries. This event underscores Kenya’s ascending role in global health leadership and diplomacy,” part of the Health CS’s post on X articulates.

Duale further asserted that the summit’s objectives align closely with Kenya’s health agenda, particularly the ongoing reforms within the health sector. He expressed that hosting this meeting provides Kenya with a unique opportunity to showcase the advancements achieved in Universal Health Coverage and primary healthcare.

“I emphasized that the theme resonates deeply with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, strengthens Nairobi’s position as a regional hub for health innovation, and offers a strategic platform to highlight the country’s leadership in Primary Health Care reforms,” he elaborated.

The Cabinet Secretary conveyed that the gathering will also facilitate open discussions on some of the most pressing health challenges confronting Africa and the world. Participants will have the chance to exchange ideas, research, and solutions that can influence future health policies.

“The summit will serve as a pivotal forum for tackling both emerging and persistent health challenges through dialogue, knowledge exchange, and enhanced regional and cross-sectoral collaboration, while promoting inclusive, evidence-based solutions with global relevance,” the statement articulates.

Duale added that the preparations are being conducted in close coordination with senior officials in the health sector. He acknowledged the invaluable presence and support of key ministry leadership during the planning sessions.

“I was joined in the meeting by the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni,” he noted.

The Cabinet Secretary asserted that the World Health Summit Regional Meeting will elevate Nairobi’s status as a central diplomatic and health hub, while simultaneously creating opportunities for Kenya to shape regional and global health discussions in the lead-up to 2026.
