The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially announced the conclusion of voting in four by-elections held nationwide, with the counting process now in progress following what officials characterized as a largely peaceful electoral exercise.
In a statement issued on February 26, 2026, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon expressed gratitude to voters in the affected regions for their active participation.
The Commission reported minimal incidents during the voting process, all of which were promptly resolved.
Voting concluded at 5:00 PM in the Isiolo South Constituency, as well as in Evurore and Muminji wards in Embu County and West Kabras ward in Kakamega County.
The Commission emphasized that the results announced at polling stations are final and will serve as the foundation for constituency-level tallying.
“The Commission sincerely appreciates and commends the residents of the four by-election areas for their turnout. Only minor incidents occurred, all of which were effectively addressed,” the notice stated.
“Voting has now closed across all polling stations, and counting is currently underway. The results declared at the polling stations are conclusive.”
Access to Tallying Centres
The IEBC has delineated specific measures governing access to tallying centres, asserting that only accredited individuals bearing proper identification and badges will be permitted entry to observe the process.
The Commission encouraged senior elected officials and party representatives wishing to witness the tallying to respect the integrity of the centres and collaborate with election officials and security personnel.
It cautioned against any actions that could jeopardize or delay the verification, tallying, and announcement of results.
At the polling station level, Presiding Officers opened ballot boxes in the presence of party agents, observers, and members of the media.
Votes were counted and tabulated in an open and transparent manner. Agents present were allowed to photograph official results forms, and copies of these forms were displayed publicly at the polling stations.
Results Management and Declaration
Returning Officers are currently awaiting results from Presiding Officers, diligently verifying the tallies and compiling constituency-level outcomes before declaring winners in the presence of accredited agents and stakeholders.
The Commission reminded any aggrieved parties that electoral disputes should be resolved through the legal system.
Additionally, the notice highlighted that the by-election results are available to the public via the Commission’s online portal.
These vacancies were created following the passing of Isiolo South MP Mohamed Tubi Bidu and the resignation of three Members of County Assembly in Evurore, Muminji, and West Kabras wards.
The IEBC urged polling officials to maintain integrity, impartiality, and adherence to the Code of Conduct, warning that any violations under the Election Offences Act would result in stringent consequences.
The Commission pledged to keep the public informed about any further developments concerning the by-elections.
