Advocate Ndegwa Njiru has stated that he does not endorse former Vice President Rigathi Gachagua, nor is he affiliated with Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
In a recent podcast interview on Monday, December 9, 2025, Njiru, who serves as Gachagua’s legal representative, explained that despite his professional role, his political allegiance remains firmly with the Wiper Party, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, and the broader United Opposition coalition.
“I don’t support Gachagua; I support the opposition because they have presented the principles that I agree with, and incidentally, I’m not even a member of DCP,” Njiru articulated.
Njiru further elaborated that the coalition’s ideologies and mission resonate more closely with his own political convictions. When questioned about supporting Gachagua if the United Opposition nominated him as their presidential candidate, the lawyer affirmed he would have no objection and would back any candidate endorsed by the coalition.
He also expressed considerable confidence in Kalonzo Musyoka, attributing his alignment with the Wiper Party to Kalonzo’s commitment to upholding legal principles and constitutional governance if he were to take office.
Njiru’s comments follow Kalonzo’s recent announcement that current surveys indicate he is ahead of President William Ruto.
According to Kalonzo, this lead has prompted discussions about a “50 percent plus 1” scenario (a runoff). However, he asserted that such a situation would not occur because he is a strong contender for the presidency and can defeat Ruto in the initial round.
“As we speak, I am significantly ahead of him in the opinion polls, so much so. That is why you have started hearing of 50+1; we will not reach there,” he was quoted as saying.
Ndegwa’s Senate Candidacy
Ndegwa Njiru has also declared his intention to contest for the Kirinyaga Senate seat in 2027, stating he is qualified for the position.
“I want to be a senator because I want to make my contribution to building this country. Okay? I am a firm believer in the law, and I believe that we need competent individuals in Parliament to oversee government, monitor resource allocation in the Senate and in the counties, and ensure that Kenyans benefit from the intended goals of devolution,” Njiru explained.
