Hamas warns Israel’s strikes risk hostage Releases amid ceasefire deal

Hamas’s armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, issued a warning on Thursday regarding Israel’s continued airstrikes and shelling in Gaza, stating that such actions jeopardize the safety of hostages set for release under a newly announced ceasefire deal.

In a message shared via Telegram, the group cautioned, “Any aggression and shelling at this stage by the enemy could turn the freedom of a prisoner into a tragedy,” referring to the Israeli hostages held in Gaza since the October 7 attack that sparked the ongoing conflict.

Abu Obeida, the spokesperson for the armed wing, noted without elaboration that an Israeli strike had targeted a location where one of the women scheduled for release “in the first stage of the ceasefire deal” was believed to be.

On Wednesday, mediators from Qatar and the United States announced an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire and hostage release. However, since that announcement, Gaza’s civil defense agency reported an uptick in Israeli airstrikes, resulting in at least 80 casualties and hundreds more injured.

Civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal confirmed the recovery of five children’s bodies following a strike in the northern city of Jabalia. The Israeli military stated that it had targeted “approximately 50 terror sites across the Gaza Strip” since late Wednesday.
