Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is seeking to protest his prosecution over alleged consipiracy to defraud the county of 8 million. He further added that the prosecution has been intimidating witnesses to fix him.
Through an urgent application filed to the High Court, Mr Ojaamong wants the trial to be decleared a mistrial alleging that the Director of Public Prosecution has been threatening witnesses called to defend him.
Lawyer James Orengo added that the governor’s key witnesses have developed cold feet to testify due to threats of victimization by the DPP.
Ojaamong was charged in July 2018 alongside his Finance Executive Benard Yaite, Chief Finance Officer Leonard Obimbira and Head of Treasury Accouting Samuel Ombui.
Lawyer Orengo stated that the prosecution became unconfortable when the governor’s first witness cleared him of any misdemenour and started threatening the witnesses to incriminate the governor
