Gor Mahia, aka K’ogalo, proudly claims the 2025/26 FKF Premier League championship after AFC Leopards faced a 2-1 defeat against APS Bomet at Kericho Green Stadium.
K’Ogalo, not even in action, secured their record 22nd league title thanks to Bomet’s victory, dramatically concluding the title race.
Leopards entered the match knowing only a win could keep their hopes alive, but Philip Wasai’s second-half brace sealed Gor Mahia’s triumph with games still remaining.
Despite having a game in hand due to a postponed fixture, Leopards couldn’t catch Gor’s impressive 68-point tally.
The first half was tightly contested, with AFC Leopards almost scoring just before the break, thanks to Tyson Otieno’s shot that forced a save from Maxwell Mulili.
However, APS Bomet surged ahead after halftime, capitalizing on defensive errors with sharp finishing. Wasai broke the deadlock in the 58th minute after a swift counterattack, showcasing his skill with a precise finish. Just four minutes later, he scored again with a powerful header from a well-placed long ball.
A late own goal offered Leopards a glimmer of hope, but APS Bomet held strong, marking their 10-match unbeaten streak, including eight straight wins.
This victory also brought financial rewards, with players and staff receiving a Sh50,000 bonus, totaling Sh200,000 in performance bonuses over their last four matches.
Gor Mahia’s success restores their league title after surrendering it to Kenya Police FC last season and secures their spot in the CAF Champions League, reinforcing their status as Kenya’s most successful football club with 22 league titles.
Midfielder Ernest Wendo further cements his legacy, now boasting eight league titles, making him the most decorated player in FKF Premier League history.
Gor Mahia will receive a guard of honour from Mara Sugar when their postponed match takes place.
In other matches, relegated Sofapaka fought hard for a 1-1 draw against Shabana FC, while Murang’a Seal FC triumphed 2-0 over Bidco United with Joe Waithira’s brace, boosting his Golden Boot tally to 19 goals. Bandari FC secured a much-needed 1-0 win against Tusker FC, marking their first league victory since March, and Nairobi United held Ulinzi Stars to a goalless draw.
For AFC Leopards, this defeat extends their long wait for a league title, with their last championship win dating back to 1998, leaving another promising season ending in disappointment.
