Fred Gumo Hosts ODM Leaders as Party Rift Over 2027 Widens

Fred Gumo, the former Westlands MP, met with some Orange Democratic Movement leaders. Edwin Sifuna, the party’s secretary general, led the group. The talks took place at Gumo’s home in Endebess, Trans Nzoia County.

Others at the meeting included ODM Deputy Party Leader and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi. Saboti MP Caleb Amisi and Likuyani MP Innocent Mugabe also joined.

On Friday, December 26, 2025, Sifuna shared details on social media. He said the veteran politician had invited them.

Sifuna explained Gumo hosted them at his farm for a key discussion. They gained wisdom from Gumo’s years in politics. The group plans to move ahead with more strength.

This meeting happens as Sifuna, Osotsi, and Amisi push back against ODM’s current path. Sifuna and Amisi have warned they will leave if the party backs President William Ruto in 2027.

Osotsi stands firm with Sifuna. Both reject the party’s direction. They insist ODM must not support Ruto in 2027.

At a church service, Osotsi said ODM needs progress. He called for Sifuna and Oburu to speak for the party. Not everyone should have that role.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi rejected this view. He pointed to the ODM constitution. Only the party leader makes choices on coalitions and support.

The leader informs the National Executive Committee after deciding. No one else holds that power.

Few details emerged from the talks. Still, Gumo’s role in Kenyan politics stands out. He and Raila Odinga pushed talks that blocked Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja’s impeachment. County assembly members had planned to oust him.

The timing fits just two days before the late Cyrus Jirongo’s body arrives by air in Kitale. It starts his funeral plans. Gumo helps organize the event.
