On Monday, the family of Steve Mwanga, the missing driver for former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju, plans to provide their statement to the police regarding his disappearance.
A spokesperson confirmed their intention to formally record the statement at the Karen police station, facilitating the police’s investigation into the matter.
“Currently, discussions center around Tuju, yet our relative Steve is also missing. The police requested that either his child or wife record the statement, which we will fulfill today,” the spokesperson stated.
Mwanga, a politician, previously ran for the Ugenya parliamentary seat but was unsuccessful.
Both Tuju and Mwanga have been unaccounted for since Saturday night, with no updates on their whereabouts or the motives behind the incident that left Tuju’s vehicle abandoned on the roadside.
The family filed a missing person report at the Karen police station on Sunday morning, prompting an investigation.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has initiated an inquiry into Tuju’s reported disappearance, following the missing person report submitted at Karen Police Station. His family reported him missing on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Both Tuju and his driver Mwanga are believed to have been abducted by unknown individuals for reasons yet to be determined. Authorities later discovered Tuju’s vehicle abandoned along Miotoni Lane, with its hazard lights still activated. A nearby security guard alerted the authorities, leading to a swift response from officers at Karen Police Station. Crime scene investigators processed the scene, and the vehicle has since been towed to the station for forensic examination. Efforts to contact Tuju have been unsuccessful, as his mobile phone remains switched off.
A specialized investigative team is currently working in coordination with relevant government agencies to ascertain Tuju’s whereabouts.
Authorities are employing all available resources and investigative techniques to uncover the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, according to the DCI. The agency noted that investigators faced obstacles when attempting to access Tuju’s residence along Mwitu Drive, as the family denied entry.
The DCI has called for full cooperation from all involved parties, emphasizing the need for unrestricted access to pertinent locations and the timely provision of information to ensure a swift and thorough investigation. The police urge any members of the public with information regarding Tuju’s whereabouts, or who may have observed him, his vehicle, or any suspicious activity in the Miotoni Lane or greater Karen area before, on, or after March 21, 2026, to step forward.
Authorities expressed hope on Monday for a successful resolution to this troubling case.
